The Old Metropolis of Veroia is one of the great episcopal churches, which were built in Macedonia during the middle Byzantine period. It is also one of the largest mid Byzantine Basilicas of the Balkans.
The paintings of the Cathedral are very important as they give us information concerning different time periods. Most of them date back to the 13th century, during the periods of 1215 / 6-1224 / 5 and 1270-1290 . The frescoes on the eastern sector of the north aisle, date back to 1320.
In the North side of the building there is a preserved minaret from the time the Ottomans converted the church into a mosque.
