The Prefecture of Imathia is located in Central Macedonia. The region of Central Macedonia consists of Imathia, Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Pella, Pieria and Chalkidiki.
The capital city and the commercial centre of Imathia is Veroia. It has more than 40 churches and many traditional houses. Apart from the wonderful churches, there are also buildings-examples of traditional Greek architecture.
The burial sight of Kings in Vergina is undoubtedly the most interesting sight in the region of Imathia. The winter attractions of the region are mainly the ski centers on Vermion Mountain. The Seli Ski Center combines slopes for skiing, endurance runs, running trails and climbing. The 3 – 5 Pigadia Ski Center is surrounded by lush vegetation and it has facilities like hostels, saunas, gyms and restaurants. Agios Nikolaos is also the ideal place for recreation. It is a huge park that crosses the river Arapitsa and it is ideal for walking, exercising and relaxing. All around the region there are numerous wineries where you can try the local varieties of wine, some of the best in Greece.
